Secretary Janet Napolitano today traveled to Nashville, Tenn., to announce the launch of the federal government's collaboration with Southern Shield - a consortium of state homeland security and law enforcement officials from 14 Southeastern states and territories - as part of the national Suspicious Activity Reporting (SAR) initiative, as well as the expansion of the "If You See Something, Say Something" campaign to fusion centers across the southeast.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today delivered remarks at the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA) International Awards Dinner- highlighting the Department's ongoing efforts to bolster aviation security and thanking the nation's airline pilots, including the crew members who thwarted the attempted terrorist attack on December 25, 2009, for their work everyday to ensure that air travelers reach their destinations safely and securely.

Secretary Janet Napolitano announced that Predator Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) flights will begin out of Corpus Christi, Texas, beginning on Wednesday, Sept.1. With the deployment of an UAS in Texas, DHS unmanned aerial capabilities will now cover the Southwest Border—from the El Centro Sector in California all the way to the Gulf of Mexico in Texas—providing critical aerial surveillance assistance to personnel on the ground.

Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Janet Napolitano today traveled to Mississippi with Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) Deputy Administrator Richard Serino to mark the fifth anniversary of Hurricane Katrina, joining Mississippi Governor Haley Barbour for a special event commemorating Hurricane Katrina and the continued recovery and restoration efforts in the Gulf Coast region.

Secretary Napolitano visited Piegan, Sweetgrass, Sunburst and Havre, Mont., with Senators Max Baucus and Jon Tester and U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Commissioner Alan Bersin to tour CBP operations and meet with state and local officials, law enforcement personnel and private sector stakeholders regarding DHS' efforts to secure the Northern border.
