Driving Under the Influence, Driving License Suspended,
Attempting To Elude
On
August 21, 2010 while on patrol in Williamstown during
Vermont Governors Highway Safety program, Orange County
Sheriff Department, Deputy McCool stopped a vehicle
operated by Kenneth Morris age 48 for speeding. Mr. Morris
exited the vehicle and fled on foot. Officer Robert Ryan
and K- 9 Jake from Barrie City PD responded to the call.
Mr. Morris was apprehended and charged with DUI, DLS and
attempting to elude. Mr. Morris was held at the Orange
County Sheriff Department in Lieu of 5 thousand dollars
bail.

Driving Under the Influence
On, August 20,
2010 while on patrol
for the Vermont Governors Highway Safety program during the
national DUI enforcement period, Sgt. Lambert and Deputy
Dan Bohnyak of the Orange County Sheriff Department came
upon a one-vehicle accident on Rte 66 in East Randolph.
Upon further investigation the operator Reginald Mongeur
age 25 showed signs of intoxication. The operator was given
a breath test with results of .188%. Mr. Mongeur was
charged with DUI taken to Orange County Sheriff
Department for processing and cited into court for later
next month.

Driving Under the Influence
On, August 21,

Orange County Sheriff Department, stopped a vehicle
operated by Cannon Williams of Washington for speeding. Lt.
Eggum spoke to the operator and during the conversation Lt.
Eggum noticed signs of intoxication. Mr. Williams BAC was
.105 roadsides. He was charged with DUI taken to Orange
County Sheriff Department were Mr. Williams was processed
and cited into court for next month

Drugs/Negligent
Operation
On
March 27, 2010 at approximately 2231 hours
Orange County Sheriffs
Department Captain Michael Welch stopped a motor vehicle on
Route 66 in the Town of Randolph, Vermont for speeding.
Captain Welch spoke to the operator. During the
conversation Captain Welch noticed signs of intoxication. A
search of the vehicle was conducted and 187 ecstasy tablets
were located. The Operator was identified as Jason Gravel,
age 19, from Northfield, CT. The passengers were identified
as Colin Miller, age 19, Brookfield, VT and Anthony KuKla,
age 20, from Southington, CT. All Three are students at St.
Michael’s College. All three subjects were arrested
for Possession of Ecstasy (Felony) and the Operator was
also charged with Negligent Operation. The subjects
were processed at the Randolph Police Department. All three
were lodged at the Orange County Sheriffs Department on
lack of $15,000.00 bail.

OF INCIDENT:
Orange
County Deputies received information that Price was no
longer residing at his registered residence in Randolph,
and conducted a Sex Offender Registry Compliancy Check on
Price and found him in a camp located on property in
Bethel, Vermont. Price was placed into custody and
processed for this offense. Upon speaking with an Orange
County Court Clerk, Conditions of Release were set along
with bail in the amount of $25,000. Price was transported
and lodged at Southern State Correctional
Facility.

On March 7th
2010 while on patrol in the town of Brookfield, LT. David
Eggum of the Orange County Sheriff Department conducted a
motor vehicle stop on a vehicle for, defective equipment
and erratic operation. During the motor vehicle stop LT.
Eggum observed an odor of intoxicants emitting from with in
the vehicle and also observed that the operator’s eyes were
watery. The operator identified as Tanner McEnany was
arrested for DUI and processed at the Orange County
Sheriff’s Department. Mr. McEnany was cited to appear in
the Orange county District Court and
released.

Chelsea—The
Orange County Sheriff’s Department arrested four residents
of East Corinth for drug charges recently. Brian
Thompson, age 48, Julie Gadapee, age 43, Cristle Gadapee,
age 23 and Jody Sears, age 24, were all taken into custody
and charged with possession of marijuana with intent to
distribute, cultivation with intent to distribute, and
child endangerment.
The
Milwaukee PD alerted Orange County that they had
seized marijuana that had been mailed from an East
Corinth address. Deputies applied for and were
granted a search warrant for the residence and went to the
house at 7 am. Upon arrival, deputies found 7.7
pounds of processed marijuana throughout the house, six
mature plants in a grow lab, drug paraphernalia and other
items related to drug sales.
Deputies
also found an eight month old infant in a crib in a bedroom
right next to the grow lab, which had an overpowering smell
of marijuana. DCF was notified and is conducting its
own investigation.
All four
were taken into custody and lodged at the Springfield
Correctional facility on $50,000 bail each. They were
arraigned the next day and released. The matter has
been referred to the US Attorney’s office for prosecution
since the defendant’s were mailing drugs across state
lines.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department to hand
out Alcohol Awareness Information on all traffic stops
during the month of April
The Orange County Sheriff’s Department in cooperation with
the Vermont Department of Health is hosting several
activities for Alcohol Awareness Month. This year the
Sheriff’s Department is handing out informational postcards
with alcohol facts and a toll free telephone number to
obtain anonymous alcohol screenings. These cards will be
given out on all traffic stops conducted by Deputies during
the month of April.
Other Alcohol Awareness Month activities will include,
classroom training for the Stop Teen Alcohol Risk Team, and
Sticker Shock Campaign.

Sheriffs Department Deputy Carrie McCool stopped a motor
vehicle on Route 113 in the town of Chelsea, Vermont for
defective equipment & erratic operation. Deputy McCool
spoke to the operator. During the conversation Deputy
McCool noticed signs of intoxication. The operator was
screened for DUI and subsequently arrested for DUI. The
subject was processed at the Orange County Sheriffs
Department for Driving Under the Influence. The subject
submitted to a DataMaster breath test and had a result of
.150%. The operator was cited into Orange County Court
later this month to answer for the charge of DUI.

SUI/DUI
On February 28, 2008 at approximately 1753 hours Orange
County Sheriffs Department Deputies(SGT Joe Hill &
Captain Michael Welch) in conjunction with Chittenden
County Sheriffs Department Deputies (Captain Mike Major
& LT Robert Stebbins), stopped to check on a
snowmobiler who had crashed his sled off the trail and was
attempting to remove it. The incident took place on VAST
Trail 110 approximately .1 miles from Upper Village Road in
the Town of Chelsea, VT. SGT Hill and LT Stebbins spoke to
the operator; later identified as Nathan Jones, age 23.
During the conversation the Deputies noticed signs of
intoxication. The operator was screened for SUI and
subsequently arrested for SUI and DUI. A bottle of hard
alcohol was located on the sled and the operator admitted
to drinking. The operator was processed at the Orange
County Sheriffs Department for Snowmobiling Under the
Influence and Driving Under the Influence as he operated a
snowmobile across Upper Village Road. The operator was
cited into Orange County Court later this month to answer
for the charge of SUI & DUI. Mr. Jones was taken into
custody by the Department of Corrections Field Supervision
Unit (FSU).

DUI
On February 27, 2009 at approximately 2115 hours Orange
County Sheriffs Department Deputy Frank Cushing stopped a
motor vehicle on Route 5 in the Town of Bradford, Vermont
for defective equipment. Deputy Cushing imitated a stop and
spoke to the operator. The operator was identified as
Joshua Allard, age 22 from West Newbury, VT. During the
conversation Deputy Cushing noticed signs of intoxication.
The operator was screened for DUI and subsequently arrested
for DUI. The Operator submitted to a PBT and showed a
result of.117%. The subject was processed at the Bradford
Police Department for Driving Under the Influence. The
subject submitted to a DataMaster breath test and had a
result of .094%. The operator was cited into Orange County
Court later this month to answer for the charge of DUI.

On January 1, 2009 at approximately 0121 hours Orange
County Deputy Sheriff John Breault and Lieutenant Tracy
Simon stopped a motor vehicle on Pleasant Street in
Williamstown for a minor traffic violation. Deputy Breault
spoke with the operator, later identified as Courtney
Hannah Bowry, 21, of Montpelier Vermont. The operator
showed signs of intoxication.
Bowry failed the Standard Field Sobriety Exercises and
submitted to a preliminary breath test. The operator had a
BAC of .142% at roadside. Bowry was taken into custody and
processed for suspicion of DUI. Bowry submitted to a
DataMaster breath test and had a BAC of .105%. Bowry was
released with a citation to appear in Orange District Court
later this month to answer for the charge of DUI.

Warrant Arrest/DLS
On December 31, 2008 at approximately 2255 hours Orange
County Sheriffs Department Captain Michael Welch, stopped
to check on a motor vehicle on Rand Road that was stopped
in the roadway with a male urinating on the side of the
road. Captain Welch spoke to the operator; later identified
as Kelly McCracken, age 42. The operator had an outstanding
warrant for failing to pay fines. The operator had a
criminally suspended license. The operator was processed at
The Randolph Police department for the Driving while
Licenses Suspended charge The operator was cited into
Orange County Court later this month to answer for the
charge of DLS. Ms. McCracken was lodged at Southern State
Correctional facility for lack of $500.00 Bail.

On November 10, 2008 at approximately 1100
hours Orange County Sheriffs Department Captain Michael
Welch, stopped a motor vehicle on Route 110 for not having
a license plate. Captain Welch spoke to the operator; later
identified as Eric Leonard, age 28. Mr. Leonard lives in
Chelsea, Vermont. The operator had an outstanding warrant
for failing to pay fines. The operator was criminally
suspended for a previous DUI. Mr. Leonard was also found to
be operating while under the influence of alcohol. The
operator took the DataMaster breath test and had a BAC of
.187%. The operator was cited into Orange County Court
later this month to answer for the charges of DUI &
DLS.

GHS DUI Enforcement Campaign
On August 26, 2008 at approximately 2207 hours Orange
County Sheriffs Deputy Chin, stopped a motor vehicle on
Route 25 for defective equipment. Deputy Chin spoke to the
operator, later identified as William Britton, age 40, and
the operator showed signs of intoxication.
Mr. Britton lives in S. Ryegate, Vermont. The Operator
failed the Standard Field Sobriety Exercises. The operator
submitted to a preliminary breath test and had a BAC of
.128% at roadside. Mr. Britton was taken into custody and
processed for suspicion of DUI.
The operator took the DataMaster breath test and had a BAC
of .118%. The operator was cited into Orange County Court
later next month to answer for the charge of DUI.

Orange County Sheriff’s Department
While on patrol for the Governor’s Highway Safety Program
National DUI Enforcement Campaign the Orange County
Sheriff’s Department stopped a vehicle operated by Jesus
Parra-Vera, 34, of Bradford.
Upon further investigation it was discovered Parra-Vera is
an illegal alien from Mexico. He was taken into custody and
held on a detainer at the Bradford Barracks until Border
Patrol arrived.

August 26, 2008
BRADFORD – Kenneth Hodge of Thetford has been cited to
appear in court after allegedly trying to outrun police on
Sunday.
Vermont State Police said troopers from the Bradford
barracks and deputies from the Orange County Sheriffs
Department were attempting to locate a vehicle that was
involved in a different motor vehicle pursuit that occurred
earlier in the night.
While patrolling the area, troopers pulled out behind a
vehicle on Beanville Road in West Fairlee. The vehicle
accelerated at a high rate of speed in an attempt to avoid
police, and officers activated their emergency blue lights
and sirens in an attempt to get the vehicle to stop.
Hodge, 24, who was driving, failed to yield to the officers
and a short pursuit ensued, police said. Deputies used
spike strips near the intersection of Parker Road,
puncturing two of the vehicle's tires. Hodges was pulled
over once both tires were deflated. He was subsequently
arrested and processed for DUI.
Hodge was released with a citation to appear at Orange
County Court to face the charges of attempting to elude and
DUI.

On August 23, 2008 at approximately 0115 hours Orange
County Sheriffs Lieutenant Eggum, stopped a motor vehicle
on Route 110, in Tunbridge, for speeding. Lieutenant Eggum
spoke to the operator, later identified as David Forcier,
age 25, and the operator showed signs of intoxication. Mr.
Forcier lives in S. Royalton, Vermont.
The operator submitted to a preliminary breath test and had
a BAC of .088% at roadside. Mr. Forcier was taken into
custody and processed for suspicion of DUI. The operator
took the DataMaster breath test and had a BAC of .086%. The
operator was cited into Orange County Court later next
month to answer for the charge of DUI.

GHS DUI Enforcement Campaign
On August 18, 2008 at approximately 2138 hours Orange
County Sheriffs Department Captain Welch, stopped a motor
vehicle on Route 66 for speeding, crossing the centerline,
and erratic operation within the travel lane.
Captain Welch spoke to the operator, later identified as 24
year old Brian Rogers. The operator showed signs of
intoxication. Mr. Rogers lives in E. Randolph, Vermont. The
Operator failed the Standard Field Sobriety Exercises.
The operator submitted to a preliminary breath test and had
a BAC of .161% at roadside. Mr. Rogers was taken into
custody and processed for suspicion of DUI. The operator
took the DataMaster breath test and had a BAC of .151%. The
operator was cited into Orange County Court later next
month to answer for the charge of DUI.

May 10th, 2008
Orange County Sheriff’s Department
While on patrol on May 9, 2008 at approximately 4:30pm an
Orange County Deputy Sheriff attempted to stop a vehicle on
Beanville Road in West Fairlee that led to a pursuit and
resulted in the arrest of Benjamin Kendall, 18, of
Vershire. LT Eggum attempted to stop the truck operated by
Kendall for a motor vehicle violation when Kendall kept on
driving. LT Eggum followed the vehicle for a short period
of time before Kendall and his passenger jumped out of the
moving vehicle and ran into the woods. The vehicle
continued traveling without an operator until coming to a
rest after hitting a shed housing a boat on private
property. After a short foot pursuit Kendall eventually
surrendered and was taken into custody for attempting to
elude, gross negligent operator, and possession of
marijuana. Assisting LT Eggum was Sheriff Bohnyak. Kendall
was lodged at the Orange County Sheriff’s Department for
lack of $10,000.00 bail.
